Statistical Programs
The R Project for Statistical Computing
R is a language and environment for statistical computing and graphics. It is a GNU project which is similar to the S language and environment which was developed at Bell Laboratories (formerly AT&T, now Lucent Technologies) by John Chambers and colleagues. R can be considered as a different implementation of S. There are some important differences, but much code written for S runs unaltered under R.
R is available as Free Software under the terms of the Free Software Foundation’s GNU General Public License in source code form. It compiles and runs on a wide variety of UNIX platforms and similar systems (including FreeBSD and Linux), Windows and MacOS.

European Environment Agency (EEA)
The European Environment Agency (EEA) is an agency of the European Union, whose task is to provide sound, independent information on the environment. The EEA aims to support sustainable development by helping to achieve significant and measurable improvement in Europe's environment, through the provision of timely, targeted, relevant and reliable information to policymaking agents and the public.
Digimap
Digimap offers access to a range of datasets for the purposes of education and research.
Create or interrogate a map online by selecting an appropriate base map, adding annotations and customising the content, use measurement and query tools to learn more about any study area. Download the raw spatial data in a wide range of formats for use in local GIS, CAD or image processing software.
Jisc
The Jisc geospatial data service, created by a partnership between Jisc and Airbus, offers easy access to a wide range of digital mapping products to members of the academic community. The service allows you to easily and quickly discover, view, order, and download a variety of geospatial data products from a range of suppliers (licenced by Jisc) – all through one simple interface.
Online Repositories
TeL: thèses-en-ligne
The purpose of TEL (thèses-EN-ligne) is to facilitate the self archiving of thesis manuscripts, which are important documents for direct scientific communication between scientists. TEL is actually a particular "environment" of HAL. It therefore has the same objective: make scientific documents available to scientists all around the world, rapidly and freely, but with a restriction to PHD thesis and habilitations (HDR, in countries where habilitations exist).
NARCIS - National Academic Research and Collaborations Information System
NARCIS is the main national portal for those looking for information about researchers and their work. Besides researchers, NARCIS is also used by students, journalists and people working in educational and government institutions as well as the business sector.
NARCIS provides access to scientific information, including (open access) publications from the repositories of all the Dutch universities, KNAW, NWO and a number of research institutes, datasets from some data archives as well as descriptions of research projects, researchers and research institutes.
TDX: Tesis Doctorals en Xarxa
TDX (Theses and Dissertations Online) is a digital cooperative repository of doctoral theses presented at some Spanish universities. The consultation of theses is opened and allows the user to construct searches on the complete text of the files by author, advisor, title, keywords, university and department of publication, year of defense, etc. This repository, managed by the Consorci de Serveis Universitaris de Catalunya (CSUC), and sponsored by the Generalitat (government) of Catalonia, has the following goals:
- To publicise, around the world and on the Internet, the results of university research.
- To offer the authors of theses a tool to increase public access to their work, enhancing its visibility.
- To stimulate the open scientific production.
The universities that take part in TDX disseminate the repository among their doctorate students with the aim of, once their theses be presented and approved, they hand in the information needed to introduce their theses on TDX. Since 2007 there have been carried out digitalization projects as well, in order to add those theses only preserved in original format (paper or microfiche) on TDX. Through these digitalization projects more than 1.400 theses have been converted into digital format, among them there is, for instance, the these of the first Spanish woman with a medical degree and Ph.D. TDX received in 2008 and in 2009 a grant from the Dirección General del Libro, Archivos y Bibliotecas del Ministerio de Cultura.
